THE 2011 BTFA CANADA DAY
RESCUE WALK& BBQ
THIS YEAR FOR HOWARD
JULY 3 2011
The 2011 BTFA Rescue
Walk was especially significant because of Howard. Howard broke his
leg when he jumped out the window of a moving vehicle. Because the
owners had no money and were in dire financial straits the decision
to send Howard across the Rainbow Bridge was reluctantly made. A vet
tech in the veterinary office made a difference. She had heard of
the BTFA 7 BT Rescue long ago. She contacted our Rescue
people…namely Bill Bedell and told him Howard’s story and he
personally intervened. Bill personally guaranteed the reduced cost
of the operation and Howard was saved. As you can see from the
pictures, he is making an amazing recovery. It was decided by the
BTFA BT Rescue that the 2011 BTFA Rescue walk be dedicated to
raising funds for Howard and help repay Bill. Regretfully, Barb &
Bill Bedell had a prior commitment and were unable to be with us for
the Walk.… They knew & understood the circumstances and Howard &
Rebecca vowed to come another time to personally thank them.
The 2011 BTFA Rescue Walk was held on Sunday July 3, 2011 and was
hosted by the Howe Family in St Catharines, Ontario. The walk was
preceded by a General Meeting of the BTFA with about twenty five
members coming out. Before the walk started, Rebecca spoke to the
group and expressed her deep gratitude to everyone for saving
Howard, especially to Bill Bedell, while Howard mingled and thanked
everyone as best he could. BT & MBT Walkers for Howard included
Lucy, Phoebe, Harley, Daisy Mae, Curly, Cole, Baxter, Ivy, Gabe &
Shyla took there owners on a great walk along the Niagara Escartment
trails behind Brock University.. $776 was raised with another $215.
in donations that has come in since the event. Led by Curly &
Malcolm and the MBT Brigade every one returned to drink lots of
water and rest. It was blast for everyone to meet new members Annie
& Don who arrived with Shyla in their gleaming vintage Cadillac
Hearse. We can’t wait to see them arrive at the Halloween Party.
Kudos & many thanks to the Howe Family for hosting and especially to
Heather for the fresh never frozen burgers that were so uniquely
popular with all…two legs or four. It was truly a BT Rescue day that
was “all about the dog”. Thanks to all for your generous support.
Respectfully Submitted

2011 BTFA Halloween
Costume Party and Treat Hunt
The 2011 BTFA Halloween
Party & Great Treat Hunt has come & gone. Anyway the Treats are all
gone. There were a lot of scary bullies on hand. The
weather was fantastic and everyone had a great time. The Mini's Lucy
& Jet showed everyone how to find the rollover on the Great Treat
Hunt this year.
but it did not take all the rest of the Pack a long time to tune in
& follow the leaders. the rest of the pack included Howard, Lexie,
Baxter, Anne,
Tom, Harley, Cole, Behr & Gabe. Cole, Behr & Baxter (The Thunderally
Boys) showed everyone had to bob for hot dogs. Cole & Behr jumped in
the
pool but Jet and Harley were not far behind.
Competition in the
Costume party was close... and it was not easy for Judge Bill.
Sports was the theme for the Minis.. Jet was a hit in her in her
Montreal Canadiens Hockey uniform while dragging around a bloody
Toronto Maple Leaf hand & glove. Lucy was a football Star. In the
Big Boys class
there were seven spectacular entries and Bill chose Vampire Baxter
with his fine fedora. Princess Lexie with her wings won for the
girls. Bean counter
Mary raised $285 for Rescue and collected some membership renewals
too.
Finally the Pot Luck
Supper was a great meal to conclude a fine bully day...The Table was
full & no one went home hungry.

THE 2011 BTFA BULL TERRIER &
MINIATURE BULL TERRIER BOOSTERS
AT THE ST.CATHARINES KENNEL CLUB SHOW
The inaugural BTFA
Booster at the St Catharines Kennel Club Championship All Breed Show
was a tremendous success. Many Bull Terrier folks travelled long
distances to show to breeder judge Carol Gray. The 2010 Westminster
Kennel Club Miniature Bull Terrier Best of Breed Winner (Ringo) came
from Indianapolis and went home with his Canadian Championship..
Also the American Nationally Ranked Bull Terrier (Blanche) also went
home with her Canadian Championship. The Top Miniature Bull Terrier
Canada travelled from Sudbury and took home group placements every
day & was Best Puppy in Show twice. Everyone that came told us they
had a great time and looked forward to coming back next year. The
BTFA would like to thank Show Chair Marg Brown and President Gerry
Tucker for making our exhibitors feel so welcome.

THE CANADIAN PURINA NATIONAL
March 12, 2011
The 2011 Purina
Canadian National was held in Toronto on March 12, 2011. This is
among the largest All Breed Dog Shows in Canada and is the premier
event featured by the Canadian Kennel Club as their annual public
showcase. All the Officers & Directors of the CKC are there and the
CKC annual meeting is part of this event. It is well advertised the
public attendance was over 10,000. The Saturday evening judging of
the Groups & Best in Show is a black tie affair and there is serious
prize money to be won. The Bull Terrier Fanciers Association
sponsored boosters for both the Bull Terrier & Miniature Bull
Terrier events. With the help & guidance of CKC director Richard
Paquette, the 2011 National drew the largest bull terrier entry ever
for our breeds at the National. Fifteen Bull Terriers & Five
Miniature Bull Terriers were exhibited.
The 2011 National featured a Breeders Village and meet & greet
sessions for the public to become more acquainted with our bull
terrier & miniature bull terrier breeds. The BTFA featured a double
booth in this Breeders Village. It was attended daily by members of
the BTFA with not only the show dogs but also our BT Rescues & pets
for the public to meet. This event was a tremendous success for
public understanding and socialization of our bull breed. Several of
our bully ambassadors were photographed & videoed for an article to
appear soon on the Pet TV channel.
In Bull Terriers Weiss & Gray’s AM GCH,CAN CH Zircon Thunderally’s
Bold Baxter was Best of Breed. The L & T Van Heck entry AxelBelle
Enno Errol Harley was BOW. The Bassakyros & Bozian entry Bullayr
Piece of my Heart at Buldor was both Best Puppy and Best Puppy in
Group.In Miniature Bull Terrier K. Prokupek’s Hammer-Louie–M Wild
Famy was the Best in Breed and Best Puppy.
All things considered this event is a great forum to help the public
better understand the dog fancy in Canada. The Canadian Kennel Club
works hard to make this show better every year. It was supported by
43 Breed Boosters and the Bull Terrier Fanciers Association was
proud to be chosen to represent our Breeds.
